چکیده

Abstract The seismic evaluation of masonry buildings in aggregate, largely diffused within the existing Italian and European building stock, represents a difficult open task that has not been exhaustively investigated so far. study proposes procedure aimed at evaluating potential impact combination local mechanisms site-amplification terms fragility curves on an unreinforced (URM) aggregate which is made five adjacent structural units mutually interacting with each other during sequences. case inspired by built heritage historic centre Visso struck Central Italy 2016/2017 earthquakes. in-plane (IP) response URM was simulated through nonlinear dynamic analyses performed 3D equivalent frame model structure, whereas out-of-plane (OOP) were analysed adopting rigid-block assumption but assuming, as input, floor accelerations derived from post-processing data global model. An innovative considering pounding effect to also presented. Two soil conditions assumed (freefield) without (bedrock) site amplification. results showed effects strongly affected vulnerability altering between IP OOP mechanisms. In fact, for bedrock condition, especially medium–high damage levels, prevailing respect response. Conversely, freefield mainly governed overall behaviour all consistently field evidence.

Assessment of Structure-Specific Fragility Curves for Soft Storey Buildings Implementing IDA and SPO Approaches

Soft storey building is popular due to the functional and aesthetic purpose, despite its weakness in resisting seismic excitation. Nonlinear Static (Pushover) Analysis (POA) is a time saving and simple assessment procedure prosposed in Eurocode 8 (EC8). However, its reliability in designing structure still remains a question. At the first stage, seismic performance of several building models us...

Investigating Efficiency of Shotcrete for Retrofitting Masonry Buildings

One of a feasible and efficient method to retrofit structures is spraying shotcrete which is widely applied around the world. Shotcrete is concrete with fine aggregates which are sprayed through a hose and by air pressure coat at high velocity onto a surface. In the current research, three masonry schools from different regions of Iran are selected. The retrofitted wall surfaces have been prepa...

Uncertainty in Seismic Capacity of Masonry Buildings

Seismic assessment of masonry structures is plagued by both inherent randomness and model uncertainty. The former is referred to as aleatory uncertainty, the latter as epistemic uncertainty because it depends on the knowledge level. Pioneering studies on reinforced concrete buildings have revealed a significant influence of modeling parameters on seismic vulnerability. However, confidence in me...

Fragility Curves for Reinforced Concrete Frames with Lap-Spliced Columns

Placing column lap-splice in the locations of possible nonlinear deformation may adversely affect the structures response to strong ground motions. Localization of damage in splice zone may change the structural response and prevent the load redistribution and development of a uniform pattern of nonlinear excursions among the various members. Validated by existing laboratory experiments, this s...

Fragility Curves Derivation for a Pile-Supported Wharf

This study aims to develop seismic fragility curves for a typical pile-supported wharf. Fragility curve is one of the popular tools in seismic performance evaluation of a structure. The software FLAC2D was used to simulate the seismic performance of the wharf structure. Using eight time history records, occurred in past, as seismic loading, incremental dynamic analysis (IDA) was applied for sei...
